Kiir reshuffles Western Equatoria State officials

 President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday reshuffled senior officials in Western Equatoria State, dismissing and appointing state ministers, county commissioners, heads of state commissions and members of the state legislature through a series of Republican Decrees.

Under Republican Decrees No. 169/2026 and 170/2026, Kiir dismissed seven state ministers.

Those removed were Elia Richard Box, Minister of Roads and Bridges; Charles Gambori, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; Gibson Bullen Wande, Minister of Education and Instruction; Alison Barnaba Kisanga, Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement; Lethecia Ambrose, Minister of Animal Resources, Fisheries and Tourism; Renzi James Renzi, Minister of Housing, Lands and Public Utilities; and James Abdallah, Minister of Health.

The president also relieved Joromo Kumba of his position as Chairperson of the State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission and Paul Awari as Deputy Chairperson of the HIV/AIDS Commission.

At the county level, the commissioners of Yambio, Ezo, Mundri East and Tambura counties were also dismissed.

To fill the vacancies, Kiir appointed Nama Edward Bukulu as Minister of Health, Abel Sudan as Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Patrick Riruyo as Minister of Education and Instruction, Samuel Simon Zigizo as Minister of Animal Resources, Fisheries and Tourism, Gibson Bullen Wande as Minister of Housing, Lands and Public Utilities, James Adu as Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Manasseh Doboya as Minister of Roads and Bridges.

Robert Raphael Ruati was appointed Chairperson of the State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, while Elizabeth Sungu Dabi was named Deputy Chairperson of the HIV/AIDS Commission.

Kiir also appointed Modi Enosa Mbaraza as Commissioner of Yambio County, Zaza William Hai Peter as Commissioner of Ezo County, Daite Mathew Bakiet as Commissioner of Mundri East County, and James Mupaya as Commissioner of Tambura County.

In separate Republican Decrees No. 173/2026 and 174/2026, the president reshuffled the Western Equatoria State Legislative Assembly by revoking the appointments of James Adu and Dita Gabriel, both members of the SPLM party.

Charles Gambori and Kusumba Charles Ambrose were appointed to replace them in the assembly.

The presidency did not give reasons for the latest appointments and dismissals.
