Kiir replaces Civil Defence Service chief

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has dismissed the head of the country’s Civil Defence Service and appointed a successor, according to a presidential decree broadcast on state television on Thursday.

Kiir relieved General Johnson Lusuk Lupai of his duties as Commissioner General of the South Sudan Civil Defence Service and appointed Lieutenant General Ruben Loro Karlo to replace him, the decree aired by the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) said.

The decree did not provide a reason for the leadership change.
