The outbreak of the highly infectious disease cholera in Jonglei State of South Sudan is under control, according to State Minister of Health Dr. Angok Gordon Kuol.

He told Radio Tamazuj in an interview on Sunday the number of victims of cholera in Twic East County where the outbreak was first reported has not increased, with the number of cases still standing only at 24.

According to the health official, there were three fatalities there due to cholera.

No confirmed cases have been found in neighboring Bor County, he noted. Two earlier reported cases were confirmed by a mobile health team of being cases of normal diarrhea.

Two other suspected cases reported from Pibor County were also confirmed to be other illnesses, not cholera, he said.

He explained that the ministry in collaboration with the World Health Organization has been continuously monitoring the situation and making precautions against further spread of the disease.
