Herder killed, cattle stolen in Duk attack

Authorities said armed raiders killed a herder, wounded another, and stole about 150 cattle in an attack Saturday evening in Duk County, Jonglei State.

Duk County Commissioner John Chatiem Ruei told Radio Tamazuj the attack occurred as herders returned home from grazing areas near Gadiang town.

“The attack happened at 4 p.m. Saturday, resulting in the death of one herder and injuring another,” he said. “The assailants made off with about 150 cattle.”

Ruei said security forces were pursuing the attackers to recover the stolen livestock. He accused armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) of carrying out the raid.

However, GPAA Information Minister Nyinginga Okanho Kiro said authorities were unaware of the incident and had no prior reports of youths leaving the area to attack neighboring communities. He pledged to investigate the allegations.
