Governor Adil backs cancer advocacy, pledges state centre

Central Equatoria state governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony has pledged support for cancer advocacy efforts, including plans to establish a state cancer centre focusing on laboratory and clinical research.

The pledge was made during a meeting with the South Sudan Cancer Association Network, led by Dr Albino Amum Awin, who invited the governor to participate in World Cancer Day on February 4.

Dr Awin said the governor’s office committed to supporting initiatives aimed at improving local healthcare infrastructure for cancer patients and strengthening the state’s health system.

He added that the proposed cancer centre would help improve treatment, research and public awareness of the disease.

World Cancer Day is observed annually on February 4 to raise awareness about cancer and promote prevention, early detection and treatment.
