Two people were killed and several others injured on Sunday morning after several civilian sites in El Obeid, the capital of Sudan’s North Kordofan State, were targeted by drone strikes allegedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Azzam Hamid, spokesperson for the Dar Hamar Emergency Room, told Radio Tamazuj that the attacks targeted civilian facilities and infrastructure, including the Olympic Stadium and Sheikan College in El Obeid.
“The strikes caused damage to parts of the college and two people were killed and several others injured in the attacks,” he reported. “The RSF has repeatedly targeted civilian facilities and health centers in El Obeid in recent months.”
Following the attack, the Board of Directors of Sheikan Private College issued a decision suspending classes for two weeks, according to a copy of the decision obtained by this publication.
Meanwhile, the North Kordofan state government and the state security committee condemned the attacks on El Obeid and accused the RSF of carrying them out. They said the strikes targeted civilian, educational, and sports facilities, including the Sports City and Sheikan College.
The state government said attacks on civilian, educational and sports facilities constitute violations of international humanitarian law, accusing the RSF of repeatedly targeting cities and civilian infrastructure with drones.
The government said the attacks would not affect the continuation of public services and daily life in El Obeid. It called on the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations to condemn attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, document violations, and hold those responsible accountable.
