Armed cattle raiders killed one herder and wounded another in an attack in South Sudan’s Greater Pibor Administrative Area, authorities said Saturday.
The assault occurred around 6 p.m. Friday near a cattle camp on the outskirts of Jebel Boma town, said Jacob Werchum Juok, the area’s information minister.
“In the attack, one of our herders was killed and another was injured,” Juok told Radio Tamazuj. “About 100 stolen cattle were recovered, but five were taken by the raiders.”
Juok condemned the attack, blaming youth from neighboring Kapoeta North County in Eastern Equatoria state.
Elias Ahaji, Eastern Equatoria’s information minister, could not be reached for comment despite multiple phone calls.
