Boro-Madina Hospital in Raja runs out of medical supplies

A delegation from Western Bahr el Ghazal State’s Legislative Assembly reported that Boro-Madina Hospital in Raja County has completely run out of medical services, leaving patients in dire conditions.

The delegation, led by Khamis Dahia Omer—the state’s economic advisor and a member of the assembly—visited Boro-Madina Payam on July 15 to assess conditions in the area. Upon returning to Wau on Sunday, Omer told Radio Tamazuj that the hospital lacked essential medicines and supplies, particularly for lactating mothers.

“The problem we found there is severe. The hospital has no medicines, and necessary medical items are unavailable,” Omer said. “Patients are being forced to share beds—sometimes two or even three to a bed.”

Omer called on the state Health Ministry and humanitarian organizations to intervene, warning that the situation requires urgent attention.

In a separate development, Omer said 17 gold mining companies operate in the area, seven of which are using expired licenses. He accused these companies of failing to renew their permits in Wau, creating unfair competition for legally compliant firms.

Only two companies—Minro Examination and Wako—are currently operating without issues, Omer said. This comes after South Sudan’s national minister for wildlife conservation and tourism, Rizik Zachariah Hassan, ordered a halt to mining operations earlier this year.
