Authorities in Jonglei State’s Bor County have issued a sweeping ban on the brewing, sale, and consumption of alcohol across all payams of the county.
The directive, contained in County Order No. 010/2026, was announced by Bor County Commissioner Samuel Ateny Pech, who said the decision is aimed at strengthening law and order and reducing alcohol-related social problems.
In the order, the commissioner invoked powers granted under the Local Government Act, 2009.
“In exercising the powers vested upon me under section 52, sub-section (b) of the Local Government Act, 2009, I Samuel Ateny Pech Ariik, Commissioner of Bor County, do hereby order for the banning of alcohol brewing and consumption in all the Payams of Bor County, starting from Jalle Payam to Abii Payam,” the order stated.
The directive further outlines strict penalties for those found violating the ban.
“Whoever is caught in the act will be arrested and brought before the County Court. The imprisonment term for culprits will not be less than six months without bail,” the order reads.
Commissioner Ateny also instructed local authorities to fully cooperate with security organs in enforcing the ban.
“All civil administrators, chiefs, youth leaders, and any other relevant authorities are directed to cooperate with security organs by reporting any culprits,” he added.
The new regulation is expected to be enforced immediately across all administrative units of Bor County, with authorities warning of strict action against offenders.
