The authorities in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) said they have arrested four people on suspicion of involvement in last month’s attack on a market in the border town of Jebel Boma.
On 30 August, two security personnel deployed to secure Jebel Boma Market were gunned down, and assailants injured three Sudanese traders. The motive of the attack remains unclear.
GPAA Information Minister Jacob Werchum Jouk told Radio Tamazuj that more security forces were deployed following the attack, resulting in four arrests.
“Last week, our security personnel managed to arrest four suspects for involvement in the attack,” he said. “Those arrested are natives of the GPAA, but their identities have not been disclosed.”
The official noted that the suspects were being investigated in Jebel Boma Town pending transfer to the administrative headquarters of Pibor for arraignment before the court.
“Only four of those suspected of having attacked the market were arrested. However, there were many during the attack, and searches are still ongoing to apprehend more suspects,” Minister Werchum disclosed. “They will be arraigned before the court, and their motive and identity will be known thereafter.”
