Security agents in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area have arrested 12 suspected drug dealers in Pibor Town as part of a crackdown on the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.
Greater Pibor Information Minister Jacob Werchum Juok told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the suspects were found in possession of Tramadol, crystal methamphetamine and marijuana. He added that the arrests aimed at protecting communities from the growing impact of drug abuse.
“The government is taking strong action against people involved in the sale and distribution of harmful drugs,” he said.
The minister said the suspects will face the full force of the law for their involvement in the illegal drug trade.
Werchum added that the confiscated drugs were destroyed in an open area in Pibor Town in the presence of Greater Pibor Chief Administrator Gola Boyoi.
“We want to protect our communities, especially young people, from the dangers associated with drug abuse,” he said.
Minister Werchum warned that security forces will continue enforcing the law against individuals involved in the sale and distribution of illegal drugs. He also linked drug abuse to an increase in the number of street-connected youth and violent incidents in Pibor.
According to the minister, some young people have allegedly committed murders while under the influence of drugs.

He called on residents to cooperate with security authorities and report people suspected of dealing in illegal drugs.
