The residents of Nadiangere Sub-County in Western Equatoria State have decried the lack of critical service in their area.
Speaking at a rally during a visit by the state Governor, Gen Alfred Futuyo Karaba, on Monday, Paramount Chief Simon Padee emphasized that the area needed safe drinking water, health services and the improvement in education. He also said the rule of law needed to be entrenched and called for the deployment of police.
Pandee also said the local chiefs were not well trained on the administration of justice according to the traditional law. He appealed to the local government to organize training of the chiefs.
He said one could not distinguish the chiefs from the ordinary civilians since the former lacked uniform. “The local government should provide us with uniforms.”
Padee also appealed for a court in the sub-county and urged partners like UNDP and UNMISS to lend a hand.
Governor Karaba said the purposes of the visit to Nadiangere, Nagero, Mvolo and Kadiba in Mundri East, was to identify the challenges facing the local residents. He disclosed that his mission was organized by the state government, supported by UNMISS.
The Governor said the government would plan together with partners to help the people. He urged the residents of Nadiangere to work hard in agriculture to avert the dependence on food from outside.
The head of the UN Office in Western Equatoria, Jane Lanyero Konyi, said the UNMISS would continue protecting civilians and providing humanitarian services. She singled out the building of one block primary school classroom and a police shelter, and urged the people of Nadiangere, to send their children, especially girls, to school.
“On behalf of UNMISS, we are very happy that we came with the Governor to handover our classroom block at Nadiangere Primary School.
“I am very happy that out of the 365 pupils in this school, 202 are girls, congratulations for prioritizing girls’ education,” she said.
“To the mothers, please keep the boy child and girl child in school but I beg you to particularly pay attention to the girl child education,” Kony said.
Nadiangere Sub-County is about 110km north of Yambio Town.
