Videos: New atrocities in South Sudan

South Sudan suffered a new spasm of violence last week that left dead hundreds of people, with massacres of civilians carried out in two state capitals, Bentiu and Bor.

Atrocities in Bentiu [GRAPHIC] (20 Apr.) – Footage shot with a mobile phone by UN Deputy Special Representative Toby Lanzer shows bodies in the road in the capital of Unity State.

Atrocities in Bentiu 2 [GRAPHIC] (20 Apr.) – A backhoe is shown carrying many bodies down a Bentiu street.

Fleeing civilians in Bentiu  (20 Apr.) – A short film clip shows civilians fleeing violence in Bentiu. Over 22,000 have taken shelter at a UN peacekeeping base in the past few days. 

The Bor massacre at UN base [GRAPHIC] (17 Apr.) – Armed men last Thursday attacked a displaced camp on a UN compound in Bor. This video consists of still images showing body bags containing victims of the attack, as well as images of victims lying where they fell.

Survivors recount horrors of South Sudan attack (20 Apr.) – This video report by Al Jazeera journalist Anna Cavell shows wounded survivors of the Bor attack, including women and children. The video also shows the government spokesperson referring to the victims as ‘rebels.’
