Two killed in ambush in Greater Pibor

Two people were killed in an ambush by suspected criminals in Jebel Boma County of South Sudan’s Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), with local officials alleging the attackers crossed from neighbouring Eastern Equatoria State.

Jacob Werchum Juok, the information minister for Greater Pibor, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the attack took place on Wednesday as the victims travelled from Jebel Boma town to Kaiwa Payam.

“Two people were killed yesterday while travelling from Jebel Boma headquarters to Kaiwa Payam in Jebel Boma County after they were ambushed by suspected criminals,” Werchum said.

He condemned the attack and called on the Eastern Equatoria State government to prevent armed youth from crossing into Greater Pibor to carry out attacks.

“We urge the government of Eastern Equatoria State to advise and restrain its youth from crossing the border to kill people in Greater Pibor. Such acts only fuel insecurity and undermine peaceful coexistence between neighbouring communities,” he said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the ambush.

Eastern Equatoria state officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
