South Sudan’s Ministry of Transport has announced plans to recruit 400 new employees in a nationwide hiring drive aimed at addressing staffing shortages across its departments, officials said on Thursday.
Transport Minister Rizik Zakaria Hassan told reporters in Juba that the recruitment process had been approved by the Ministry of Public Service and would soon begin.
“We will be receiving applications from qualified South Sudanese who are willing to join the Ministry,” Zakaria said. “An ad hoc committee has been formed to oversee the process, including shortlisting and interviews.”
The minister urged recent graduates and experienced professionals to apply, saying the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen government institutions and improve service delivery.
“We are asking capable South Sudanese to fill the existing gaps in our workforce,” he said, expressing optimism that ongoing challenges in the public sector, such as delayed salary payments, would gradually improve.
The Ministry did not specify when the recruitment would start or what categories of positions would be available.
The Ministry of Transport is a key government institution responsible for developing and regulating South Sudan’s transport infrastructure and services. Its mandate covers road, rail, river, and air transport, as well as oversight of public transport safety and logistics.
Based in Juba, the institution also coordinates with state governments and agencies such as the Civil Aviation Authority and the river transport to improve connectivity across the country.
