SPLA spokesperson Col. Philip Aguer has denied claims that the government launched air attacks around Wau in Western Bahr el Ghazal state.
He instead accused the SPLA-IO rebels attacked their positions in Mapel, Bazia and Bou areas near Wau. Aguer said the govenrment repulsed the rebels and the situation is now calm.
This comes after multiple sources in Wau town in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal State told Radio Tamazuj that the government carried out aerial attacks in the area, as well as allegations from the rebels of such attacks.
The UN announced reports of fighting between SPLA army and opposition rebels in the area over the weekend but made no mention of air assaults.
