Four police officers have been arrested over the recent escape of inmates from the Rumbek County Police Station, police have said.

Four police officers have been arrested over the recent escape of inmates from the Rumbek County Police Station, police have said.

Police Spokesperson in Lakes State, Major. Elijah Mabor Makuac told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the officers were arrested for negligence at work.

He said police forces are pursuing a number of prime suspects for further investigations.

“It was a case of negligence. It was on date 7th at Rumbek Central Police Station whereby inmates escaped at night,” he said.

Mabor said the four were arrested following a preliminary probe by an investigation board to establish the identities of the officers on duty on the fateful night.

“And also we instructed our security apparatus to follow the suspects or the accused person who escaped prison. These are the few things that we registered these days in Lakes State, but otherwise, the security situation is calm and normal,” he said.

The police chief added, “Now we have four police personnel under arrest, and the investigation will take place.”
