Local authorities said a man whose identity has not been revealed was killed, his two sons, aged 8 and 15, abducted when they were attacked while moving on a road in Jonglei State’s Uror County on Sunday.
The 15-year-old boy was badly beaten by the assailants and left for dead in the bush, but survived and is momentarily nursing life-threatening injuries at a hospital in Duk County.
Duk County Commissioner John Chatim Ruei told Radio Tamazuj that the trio were on their way to Duk from Uror when they were waylaid in the Mumpiny area.
“This family of three, belonging to Cie-Nyang, was visiting Duk County. However, they were attacked midway, resulting in the killing of a man whose gun was taken,” he said. “His two sons were abducted. Later, in the bushes, they (attackers) beat the elder boy and left him unconscious while his younger sibling was taken.”
“The injured 15-year-old boy managed to regain consciousness and made it to the nearby town of Pajut, where he is being treated,” Commissioner Chatim added.
He accused youth from the neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) of involvement in the attack.
However, GPAA Information Minister Jacob Werchum Jouk said they are not aware of the attack.
