South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Friday dismissed four undersecretaries and named their replacements in a series of Republican decrees, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs said.
A statement from Minister Africano Mande Gedima said those relieved of their duties with immediate effect included the undersecretaries for petroleum, health, and East African Community affairs, as well as the first undersecretary of finance.
No reason was given for the dismissals, which were enacted under Republican Decree No. 107/2026.
Their successors were appointed under Republican Decree No. 108/2026. Dr. Santino Ayuel Longar will serve as undersecretary for petroleum, replacing Dr. Chol Deng T. Abel, who recently announced an increase in the country’s oil production.
Malual Tap Dieu was named first undersecretary of finance, taking over from Kuol Daniel Ayulo.
Kawaja Kau Madol was appointed undersecretary for East African Community affairs, succeeding Mary Hillary Wani. Dr. Oromo Francis Seriano was named undersecretary for health, replacing Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baaime.
In South Sudan, undersecretaries are senior civil servants who assist ministers in managing their ministries. They oversee the day-to-day administration, implement government policies, and provide technical advice to support decision-making at the ministerial level.
The president’s office expressed gratitude to the outgoing officials for their service and extended best wishes to those assuming the new roles. The changes take effect immediately.
South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, frequently sees high-level bureaucratic reshuffles amid political realignments. The country remains in an extended transitional period following a 2018 peace agreement that ended a five-year civil war.
