Jonglei caretaker governor names cabinet

Jonglei State Caretaker Governor Moses Majok Gatluak has appointed seven ministers and a political affairs coordinator to his cabinet, according to gubernatorial decrees seen by Radio Tamazuj.

Majok named the officials in Decree No. 7/2026, appointing caretaker ministers, and Decree No. 8/2026, appointing a political affairs coordinator.

The appointed ministers are Wilson Awuol Gajang, caretaker minister for Local Government and Law Enforcement Agency; Gatluak Riek Bol, caretaker minister for Finance, Planning and Investment; and Rejoice John Paul Deng, caretaker minister for Information and Telecommunication.

The others are David Gul Johnson, caretaker minister for Health; Gordon Koang Bar Malith, caretaker minister for General Education and Instruction; James Bol Makuei Hoth, caretaker minister for Roads, Bridges and Infrastructure; and Veronica Simon Kam, caretaker minister for Agriculture and Food Security.

The appointments were made under Article 99(2)(a) of the Transitional Constitution of Jonglei State, 2011, read together with Republican Decree No. RSS/OP/RD-J-243-09/2026.

In a separate decree, Majok appointed veteran state politician Ding Akol Ding as coordinator for political affairs in his government.

John Bior, executive director of the youth-led organisation ATAKA Hub, welcomed the appointments but cautioned the new officials against corruption.

“Regardless of the background of those appointed, the naming of cabinet is a welcome move. They will help deliver services during this election period,” he told Radio Tamazuj.

“My appeal is that public interest should override their individual interests. They should not think that they would be there for just three months and so they only serve themselves,” Bior said.
