The governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal visited army units at Unyiik on Monday after unconfirmed reports of fighting the previous day.
He was accompanied by six ministers on the visit to Unyiik, headquarters of SPLA’s 3rd Division commanded by Maj-Gen. Deng Wol.
Governor Paul Malong during the visit offered a donation of sacks of sorghum, saying that the contribution will encourage the forces at the front line.
The state’s council of ministers has passed a resolution that each minister should contribute 2 sacks of sorghum and each citizen 1 malwa of sorghum to the army.
Ground forces had reportedly clashed in the disputed ‘Mile 14’ area between Darfur and Northern Bahr el Ghazal on Sunday, but Maj-Gen. Deng Wol declined to comment on the incident.
The location of the clashes and number of casualties are unconfirmed. Earlier media reports had cited the death of three people but Radio Tamazuj learnt only that three wounded were brought to Aweil Hospital, one of whom later died.
