South Sudan's Eastern Equatoria state governor on Tuesday sacked Torit Municipal Council Mayor Joseph Aye Joseph Oswaha.

Governor Louis Lobong in a gubernatorial decree seen by Radio Tamazuj relieved Oswaha without giving reasons.

Part of the decree reads, "In exercise of powers conferred upon me under the Republican Decree No. 5/2022 AD and in accordance with the article 165(2) of the transitional constitution of the republic of South Sudan, 2011 as amended read together with article 99(2a) of the Transitional Constitution of Eastern Equatoria State, 2011; I Louis Lobong Lojore Governor Eastern Equatoria State, do hereby issue this gubernatorial decree for the relieve of Mr. Joseph Aye Joseph Oswaha, Mayor of Torit Municipal Council, Eastern Equatoria State with effect from 9th August 2022."

Governor Lobong said, "I would like to thank him for the services he rendered to the people of Torit Municipal Council during his tenure of office."

No replacement has been made.

For his part, Joseph Aye Joseph Oswaha said he was not given reasons for his dismissal but said this was a normal routine.

“Yes I heard I'm relieved but there is no problem with that. This is an official routine, I may not have anything to say more than this. This is a normal procedure," he said.
