Central Equatoria launches probe into deadly Wonduruba cattle raid

The government of Central Equatoria State has launched an investigation into a deadly cattle-raiding incident in Wonduruba that authorities say was carried out by suspected youth from Bor, leaving several people killed and others wounded.

State Advisor for Peace and Security Angelo Daya said an investigation committee has been formed and will be deployed to the area to establish the facts surrounding Friday’s attack. He spoke to journalists at the state secretariat after a meeting with Governor Emmanuel Adil on Thursday.

“The government of Central Equatoria State has constituted an investigation committee, and this committee will be deployed immediately to look into what happened in Wonduruba,” Daya said.

He urged cattle herders from neighboring Jonglei State to respect directives from the Central Equatoria government while the investigation is underway.

Daya said the Mundari community, which inhabits parts of the area, is known for peaceful coexistence and warned against further attacks on civilians. He also called on the Jonglei State government to advise cattle herders to refrain from violence.

Meanwhile, the acting chairperson of the Mundari community, Wani Buyu, accused Dinka Bor youth of attacking cattle camps in Wonduruba, killing people, injuring others and stealing livestock.

“Dinka Bor youth attacked our cattle camps in Wonduruba, raided our cattle, killed our people and left others injured who are now receiving medical treatment,” Buyu said.

He condemned the attack as inhumane and appealed to the state government to intervene to recover the stolen cattle and protect the community from further violence.

A Bor community leader, Angok Kuol Tiir, was not immediately available for comment.
