Al-Burhan meets executive secretary of Great Lakes organization

The chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on Thursday, met with the Executive-Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) Ambassador João Samuel Caholo in Port Sudan.

Gen. Al-Burhan expressed Sudan's gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of the organization and its support for Sudan, emphasizing the need for the organization and other entities to accurately reflect the situation in Sudan without distortion.

He affirmed the capability of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) to defeat the rebellion and expel it from every inch of Sudan, with the full support of the Sudanese people, who he said have unequivocally aligned themselves with their national army.

Meanwhile, ICGLR Executive-Secretary Amb. Caholo in a press statement, expressed the organization's desire to contribute to resolving the Sudanese crisis and working to end the war that has caused devastation in Sudan.

“We came to pay a courtesy call on His Excellency (Al-Burhan) to express the solidarity of the organization with the people of Sudan and the concerns that we have on the pertaining situation in Sudan,” he said

Amb. Caholo promised the organization's adoption of Sudan's vision in the coming phase and its clear reflection on all international platforms without distorting the facts.

“The organization held an extraordinary summit last year on the situation in Sudan and expressed themselves and no one has set certain terms for what must happen to bring definite ceasefire and to bring all these wanton destructions of human lives and infrastructure to an end,” he added.

On his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs Chargé d'Affaires Hussein Awad who attended the meeting explained that the meeting comes within the framework of ICGLR’s efforts to communicate with African leaders and resolve crises.

“The Executive Secretary of ICGLR briefed the Sovereignty Council Chairman on the organization's activities at all levels, especially on the security front,” he stated.

Awad pointed out the leading role of the organization since the outbreak of fighting in Sudan, noting that it issued a clear statement condemning the terrorist acts of the rebellious Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, describing them as an outlaw group.

The foreign minister also called on regional organizations, especially the African Union, which he described as the mother organization, to follow the lead of the ICGLR and not deviate from Sudan's vision.
