Egypt secured their first win of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a comfortable 5-0 victory over South Sudan in Juba on Tuesday.
The Pharaohs, held to a goalless draw by Angola in their opening match, took control at Juba National Stadium and never looked in danger of dropping points.
Mostafa Zico opened the scoring in the 36th minute, meeting Ahmed Fattouh’s cross from the left before firing into the net.
Egypt doubled their advantage four minutes after the restart when Omar Marmoush ran on to a long pass from Mohanad Lasheen, beat the South Sudan defence and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Ibrahim Adel made it 3-0 in the 75th minute after receiving a pass from Marwan Attia inside the South Sudan half. He drove forward before calmly finishing past the goalkeeper.
Marmoush added his second seven minutes later, rounding the South Sudan goalkeeper inside the penalty area before rolling the ball into an empty net.
Hamza Abdelkarim completed the scoring in stoppage time, reacting quickest after the South Sudan goalkeeper had saved Osama Faisal’s effort.
The victory gives Egypt four points from their opening two matches and puts them firmly into the qualifying campaign after their draw with Angola.
