Local authorities in the Western Equatoria State capital, Yambio, have confirmed the tragic killing of a 22-year-old man by his wife on Friday night.
According to John Simon, the chief of Rii Bodo in Bazungua Payam, the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. when the victim, identified only as Anibiko, was fatally stabbed by his wife following a domestic dispute. The suspect reportedly fled the scene and is currently at large.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Chief Simon condemned the incident and urged couples to resolve domestic disagreements peacefully.
“If there is any issue between couples, it should be brought to the chief’s house where it can be resolved peacefully, not through violence that leads to death,” he said.
Meanwhile, Edward Alimino Mombasa, Deputy Chief of Yambio Town Municipality, disclosed that the deceased was attacked and killed after his wife discovered he was involved with another woman.
“If a man wants to marry another woman, there should be mutual agreement,” Mombasa stressed. “Such matters should be handled through dialogue, not bloodshed.”
For his part, Francis Francisco Akim, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) coordinator in Yambio County, described the incident as a tragedy.
“It is unacceptable to take someone’s life over such matters,” he said. “This is now a criminal case, and the law will take its course.”
Akim urged young people to control their emotions and resolve conflicts through dialogue. “Violence is never the answer. Let us learn to solve issues calmly and respectfully,” he appealed.
The body of the deceased is expected to be laid to rest on Saturday evening as investigations continue.
Efforts to reach the state police commissioner for comment were futile.
