Western Bahr el Ghazal State on Friday launched the training of 1,011 police recruits to strengthen security ahead of the 22 December elections.
The event, held at the state police headquarters, was attended by the state government officials led by Governor Maj. General Sharif Daniel Sharif and Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Edward Dimirti Lokak.
Gen. Lokak said that after they complete training, the policemen and women will work to enforce election security.
“Governor, allow me to convey my message to the recruits who have gathered here today for the launch of this important training of 1,011 recruits, of which 135 are female,” he said. “I want to tell you that you are meant to improve the challenges facing the police force in the state.”
Gen. Lokak urged the trainees to serve with professionalism and be patriotic.
“I welcome you all to this training. You were selected to protect the elections of 22 December 2026. This is a national duty so that the elections are free and fair,” he said. “You do not belong to a specific individual or political party and will be trained to serve the Republic of South Sudan.”
On his part, Governor Sharif Daniel Sharif thanked the new recruits and urged them to serve with esteem and observe the rule of law during the upcoming elections.
“I am very happy to witness youth joining the police in large numbers because this shows that you are patriotic. I thank Gen. Lokak and all his staff for their wonderful contribution and the committee for a great job. I also learned that these youths have education to secondary school and university levels,” he said. “You, the youth, are the future of this country, and I want you to participate in the protection of this state and the country.”
This recruitment is the largest of its kind in Western Bahr el Ghazal state since the country’s independence in 2011.
