Sudan’s National Elections Commission (NEC) yesterday announced publication of an electoral register for the upcoming elections scheduled for April 2015.
NEC Chief Mukhtar Al-Asam said the elections register contains 11,500,000 voters from 7,133 registration centres across the country.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Al-Asam said the publication of the elections register will last for two weeks in order to allow ample time for additions and omissions. He added that the final publication will take place after legal appeals and objections.
He said 33 registered parties have already sent their delegates to participate in the elections, reiterating their commitment to follow the declared schedules.
Al-Asam dismissed reports of financial constraints preventing the implementation of the schedules. “We have no funding problems,” he said.
The official called on voters to ascertain that their names are on the elections register by visiting registration centres or by dialling the number 6006.
Meanwhile, Al-Hadi Mohamed Ahmed, an official of the Commission who is in charge of the register and the technical aspects said Abyei and Halayib are included in the elections register, indicating that 90 registration centres have opened in Halayib.
Gen. Abdallah Al-Hardalo, who is in charge of the national constituencies and elections security, said 266 constituencies will witness the conduct of elections.
He added that publication of the register began yesterday and will continue for two weeks in accordance with declared procedures.
