A prisons officer was arrested after allegedly attacking and injuring a woman with a spear on Monday during a land dispute in Rukuai Payam, Mayendit County, authorities said.
Tap Dak, a prisons service officer in Unity State, was detained after attacking his neighbor, Nyakuol, over a contested piece of land. According to local officials, Dak attacked Nyakuol with a spear, striking her in the stomach and hand.
Marko Juong Majok Gatluak, the Mayendit County commissioner, confirmed the arrest, stating that Dak had “misused his power” against an innocent civilian.
“Tap Dak is now detained at the Rubkuai Payam police station,” Gatluak told Radio Tamazuj. “Investigations are ongoing, and he may be transferred to Bentiu for further legal proceedings.”
Gatluak condemned the attack, questioning why a government official would disregard legal land allocations. He also suggested that alcohol may have influenced Dak’s actions.
Tam Kuol, Mayendit County’s police director general, said Dak was apprehended by security forces and remains in custody.
“Once he is transferred to Unity State’s capital, a specialized investigative team will determine why Tap attacked his neighbor,” Kuol said. He added that Dak would face prosecution in accordance with state directives.
The victim, Nyakuol, is receiving treatment at a health facility in the area.
