Malaria intervention in 4 states of Sudan

Sudan’s federal health ministry announced it will initiate an intervention in several states due to the high rates of malaria and the breeding of mosquitoes. The intervention will run for one month with federal funding.

The coordinator of the national malaria program in the ministry, Dr. Khalid Abdul Muttalib, said in a press statement that the intervention will take place in Blue Nile, White Nile, West and Central Darfur states.

He added that the increase of diseases in these four states is what led to the planned intervention by the national program. The effort is due to start in the beginning of next week and will run until next month.

The intervention will include efforts to spray ponds of stagnant water to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
