Governor Adil launches rehabilitation of Juba–Mundri road

Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony on Wednesday launched the rehabilitation of the 175-kilometer Juba–Mundri road, a key transport corridor that authorities say will improve access to basic services and boost trade.

Speaking at a ceremony in Juba, Governor Adil said the road stretches from Juba to Mundri, with the longest section located within Central Equatoria State.

“This road is very important to our people. It connects communities and will ease the movement of goods and services. The 175 kilometers from Juba to Mundri will greatly enhance service delivery and economic activities in our state,” Adil said.

The governor called on the United Nations Mission in South Sudan to ensure adequate security during the two-month rehabilitation period.

“We count on UNMISS to provide a conducive environment in terms of protection and security so that the work is completed peacefully and on time,” he said.

Juba County Commissioner Emmanuel Tete Esbon said the project would benefit several areas along the corridor, including Luri Payam, Nyuarja, Somba, Yari Boma, Nyamana, Koda, Sermon, Jebelen, Merkiyu and Rokon.

“This will significantly improve connectivity for our communities,” Tete said.

UNMISS Project Officer Maj. Junayet said the rehabilitation aims to widen the road and improve its condition in line with technical standards to ensure durability and safety for users.

Authorities say the project is expected to ease transportation challenges, particularly during the rainy season, and expand economic opportunities for residents along the Juba–Mundri corridor.
