A chartered cargo plane carrying humanitarian supplies has crashed in Leer County, Unity State, with all three people on board feared dead, authorities have said.
The incident occurred near Rupchier Boma in Guat Payam on Tuesday at around 8:00 a.m.
The acting county commissioner, Kueth Latjor, told Radio Tamazuj that the light aircraft was carrying food items for the charity Samaritan’s Purse. He said the flight had taken off from the capital, Juba, and was destined for Leer to aid flood victims.
Latjor, who also serves as the county’s executive director, said the two crew members and an engineer on board are believed to have died at the scene.
The crash site is reported to be in a remote area, approximately three hours away on foot.
“I have sent a team of security forces, including the payam administrator, to the location,” Latjor said. “They will provide a full report upon their return.”
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
