Ayod Town planning survey underway

The town planning survey of Jonglei State’s Ayod County headquarters, Ayod Town, is underway, officials have said.

James Chuol Jiek, the commissioner of Ayod County, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that the exercise started on 15 March and will continue until every resident gets a plot.

A team from the state’s land and housing ministry, he said, is in Ayod town to oversee the survey and land allotment process.

“On 15 March, we started the process of surveying the town and allotting land to our people,” Chuol said. “We initiated this exercise and sought the approval of the state leadership. Now, the process is ongoing, and only SSP 20,000 is charged as a token registration fee.”

The commissioner emphasized the importance of the town plan survey in enhancing service delivery.

“We are opening up roads and creating spaces for schools, hospitals, playgrounds, and other public spaces which mean services for our people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Madhol Ruac, the state ministry’s land and housing deputy director for accounting, said the exercise is going well.

“This exercise was launched on 13 February and we started with the opening of the main roads and surveying the market. From there, we will move to minor roads within residential areas and the allotment of land,” he explained. “I cannot say that we will finish the work in one or two months because the bulldozers always get problems.”

One Ayod town resident Mary Nyayual lauded the exercise as a major development and urged the county government to avail health and other basic services.
