Western Nuba face outbreaks of disease

Outbreaks of malaria and diarrhea have hit Dilling South area in South Kordofan. The region faces an acute shortage of medicines and rise in their prices.

A local described the spread of diarrheal diseases and malaria among children in the areas of Julud and Timin.

He told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the continuous conflict has led to a deterioration of the living conditions of the people, poor sanitation, higher mortality rates and abandoned health centres.

Dilling South citizens have started to turn to folk remedies.

The mentioned areas are part of the SPLA-controlled western hills. They are largely cut off from the eastern Nuba Mountains owing to government control of the north-south road between Kadugli and Dilling.
