The people of Twic East County and the wider Jonglei State are mourning the passing of the former county commissioner, Deng Mabeny Kuot, who died on Sunday evening at his residence in Juba.
According to close sources, he succumbed to liver cancer, a condition linked to a prolonged Hepatitis infection for which he had sought medical care in both Nairobi and India. Despite the efforts of medical professionals abroad, his condition remained critical. He returned home recently, where he spent his final days surrounded by loved ones.
In an official statement, the current commissioner of Twic East County, Juach Arok Juach, expressed profound sorrow and extended condolences to the bereaved family and the entire community.
“On behalf of Twic East County and on my behalf, I do hereby extend my heartfelt condolences… for the fall of former Commissioner Deng Mabeny Kuot,” he said. “He has been battling with sickness all this time after his service at the county. Our hearts pour out to the grieving families and the gap that he has left in our community.”
Describing the late Mabeny as “a towering figure of strength and dedication,” Commissioner Juach praised his exemplary leadership and lifelong commitment to public service.
“His leadership in Twic East has left a mark that will be cherished for generations to come,” he added. “May his soul rest in peace, knowing that his spirit will live on in the lives he touched and the hearts he uplifted.”
Throughout his tenure, Mabeny was known for his unwavering dedication to development, peacebuilding, and unity in Twic East County. His leadership was marked by integrity, humility, and a deep love for his people.
He is survived by his wife and three children, two daughters and a son.
The date for a memorial service to honor his life and legacy is expected to be announced in the coming days.
