Three people died in separate road accidents in Cueibet county, Lakes State, over the Easter holiday, police authorities said.
Traffic police confirmed that one accident occurred on the main road from Malou-Pech Payam to Tonj South on Friday, claiming one life. A second accident on Sunday between Mayath Payam and Cueibet town killed two motorcycle passengers.
Chol Gorjok, director of traffic police in Lakes State, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that both drivers involved in the accidents were arrested and are undergoing investigation at Cueibet County headquarters.
Daniel Laat Kon, a local official, said the crashes were caused by speeding and poor road conditions. He urged both drivers and passengers to exercise caution, especially on pothole-ridden roads, and called for greater enforcement of traffic rules.
“Passengers should remind drivers to slow down and drive safely,” he said. “It is very unfortunate to lose two lives in one incident. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, and we pray for their souls to rest in peace.”
