Sudanese refugees at Boro Medina complain of lack of health services

Hundreds of South Darfur refugees living in Boro Medina camp in Raja County in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal State are facing deteriorating health conditions, refugees said in interviews.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, several Sudanese refugees said there were not enoug medical workers in the area nor enough medicines, as rain season diseases such as malaria and water-borne diseases have been spreading in the camp.

They also raised concerns about the shortages of shelter and mosquito nets and good medical attention.

“The refugees are badly suffering. As you know very well that the rainy season has already started in the area, while the refugees do not have plastic sheets and mosquito nets,” a refugee said.

“This week, malaria cases that have been recorded among the children were terrible, so now the refugees often go for long distances in order to get treatment,” he explained.

Darfur refugees have been in Boro Medina area for several years.
