Several speakers at a memorial held in the Al-Firdous locality of East Darfur State on Wednesday in honor of a young man whose dead body was mutilated by Sudanese soldiers last Sunday in Al-Jazeera State denounced the crime of mutilation of a dead body saying it violates divine and moral laws.

The deceased young man, Hamdan Mohammed Ali Al-Badawi, met a gruesome death after Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) soldiers killed him, extracted his intestines, and attempted to eat them all while filming their actions.

Suleiman Ahmed Ali Al-Badawi, a cousin of the deceased, told Radio Tamazuj that the mutilation of the body of a Sudanese citizen by the army is regrettable and emphasized that the SAF cannot be entrusted with the protection of citizens.

“The SAF are responsible for protecting citizens, but in this war, they bombed civilians with warplanes and barrel bombs, leading to the deaths of civilians and the destruction of cities in Sudan,” he lamented.

Ahmed confirmed that his deceased cousin traveled to Al-Jazeera for trade and was not involved in the war.

The Executive Director of Al-Firdous Locality, Juma Haraz, described Mohammed’s murder and the mutilation of his body as heinous, not reflecting the values and behavior of the Sudan Armed Forces. He said it is a crime against humanity and morality, which is why it was condemned by the entire world locally and internationally on news and social media platforms.

“Mohammed was a citizen and had no connection with either the Rapid Support Forces or the Armed Forces and this heinous crime of his murder and the mutilation of his dead body has deeply shaken us,” Haraz said.

On his part, Mohammed Salih Mohammed Ali accused the army of targeting the Rizeigat and Misseriya tribes.

“The victims’ only crime is carrying an identity card issued by the authorities in East Darfur State,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Sudan Armed Forces Spokesperson Brigadier General Nabeel Abdullah, through a statement, denied that the militants who mutilated the young man's body belonged to the army.
