One killed in attack in Pochalla

One person was killed and another injured in an attack by armed assailants on a border village in Pochalla North County of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), authorities said.

Okwier Ojulu Omot, the county commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the incident occurred on Wednesday night when assailants, suspected to be from neighboring Pibor areas, attacked Daktek village in Burator Payam.

“The incident was carried out by criminals from the Murle community at around 7 p.m. It resulted in the killing of a boy identified as Cwow Orik Obutha, 12, and the wounding of Wat Omot Ochogi, 15,” he said.

Omot condemned the attack and said armed local youth were pursuing the assailants.

“Our youth are still pursuing the attackers. The motive for the attack is unclear, but in the past such criminals have attacked to raid cattle, abduct children or steal valuables,” he said.

Jacob Werchum Jouk, the GPAA information minister, was not immediately available for comment.
