The Commissioner of Mayom County, Maj. Gen. John Bol Mayak, on Monday officially returned 70 head of cattle to their rightful owners from Warrap State’s Twic County.
The cattle had been raided by a group of youth from Mayom County on 14 July and were successfully recovered by the Mayom County authorities on 15 July 2026.
The commissioner told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that they worked collaboratively with officials from Warrap State to ensure the cattle were returned to the owners.
“I am a commissioner for the government and not for Nuer only; that is why the Government of Unity State is working very hard to control the cattle raiding between Unity State and neighboring areas like Ruweng and Warrap State,” he stated. “We as the Government of Mayom County will continue working together with the Government of Warrap State to resolve the issue of cattle raiding at the border.”
Gen. Bol strongly warned the youth of Mayom County to desist from cattle rustling and criminal activities. He reiterated that the county authorities will continue to enforce the law and hold accountable anyone who disrupts peace, security, and good neighborly relations.
He also called upon the authorities of Twic County in Warrap State to boost security along the border to prevent cross-border crimes and improve joint efforts in protecting lives and property.
Meanwhile, Dhuorjang Aguek, speaking on behalf of the cattle owners, expressed deep gratitude to the officials of Mayom County for their quick response and commitment to justice.
He praised the Commissioner Gen. Bol and the security forces for ensuring the peaceful recovery and return of the cattle, describing this action as an important step in strengthening the long-standing relationship between the people of Mayom and Turalei counties.
“I have received my cattle from Mayom County after they were raided by armed youth from Mayom on 14 July,” he said. “On 15 July, I was called and informed that the cattle were recovered by the authorities in Mayom County under the leadership of Commissioner Gen. John Bol Mayak.”
