Man kills brother over cattle for bride price in Leer

The police in Unity State’s Leer County have confirmed that a 23-year-old man was killed by his elder brother over a dispute about cattle for the former’s marriage on Monday.

Samuel Machul, the Director General of Police in Leer County, told Radio Tamazuj that they were aware of the incident but could not take action because it occurred outside their jurisdiction, in an area controlled by the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in Opposition (SPLA-IO).

“We got the information that someone was killed by his brother. That the elder brother refused to give cows for bride price for his younger brother to marry a woman,” he said. “However, the incident happened in an area under the SPLA-IO, which is out of our jurisdiction, so we just recorded that someone was killed.”

“We have the full information about the incident,” Macul added.
