Government authorities in Warrap State’s Kuajok Town, on Tuesday, announced a ban on consumption and trade of all alcohol from morning hours until 5: 00 p.m. across Kuajok Municipal Council.
William Wol Mayom, the state’s information minister, said the local order was made to allow people in government and the private sector to work during the day.
“Yes, the local orders from the Kuajok Municipal Council restricted the opening of alcohol shops and drinking to evening hours to allow the officials and the public to embark on meaningful activities during the daytime,” said Wol.
According to the Warrap Government Spokesman, bars and alcohol drinking places are suspended from the morning hours and resume their normal operations at 5:00 p.m. every day.
One of the affected residents in Kuajok, Angelo Dut, said a hotel he used to visit to access the internet and electricity was closed.
“We are surprised because the entry to our usual hotel where we normally used to sit and enjoy soft drinks, carrying out work on computers and accessing the internet has been closed and when we tried to get in, we found it difficult,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bona Malual, the leader of the civil society in Warrap State, said alcohol has negative effects and urged the government to extend the order across the entire state.
“The issue of alcohol consumption is not a problem of the Kuajok town alone, but it is a main problem in all counties because the consumers cannot perform their government duties and family responsibilities and as civil society organization, we welcome that decision,” he said.
