The authorities in Western Bahr el Ghazal State have said they have launched a serious investigation into the killing of a school teacher who was gunned down in cold blood in Wau on Monday.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday morning, Brig. Bol Mel Ayok, the director of police in Wau Town, said they have launched a serious investigation to arrest the suspects involved in the killing of a professional teacher.
“We have deployed security forces on the eastern bank, the roads to Tonj and Warrap, and other internal roads,” he said. “We have a mobile patrol team, and the situation has now returned to normal. The residents are doing their normal life activities because they have witnessed the presence of government.’
Brig. Mel said that despite no arrest being made, the security apparatus is searching for the suspects.
“Nobody was arrested because these were unknown gunmen; they came while their eyes were covered and followed the teacher on the road and shot him,” he said. The criminals ran toward the Wau-Tonj Road, and we did not find them. Investigations are ongoing into the matter.”
“This was a coordinated attack; the teacher was returning to school from the hospital when he was attacked and shot dead,” he added.
Mel called on the entire population to cooperate with the deployed security forces in combating crime.
“I want to tell the people of Wau and Western Bahr el Ghazal State at large that security is from the civilians; 85 percent comes from the civilians, and 15 percent is from the people in uniform,” he stated.
Mel said the civilians need to report any suspected or unknown people to the security forces.
