The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), on Tuesday commenced a two-day workshop attended by 30 journalists from different media outlets to empower the role of female journalists in media development.
UJOSS President Oyet Patrick Charles thanked the NPA for supporting the Training of Trainers for the Female Journalists 2026 program and urged the female journalists to aim higher in executing their duties.
“I would like to appreciate NPA for supporting this activity and many of our activities,” he said. “As young journalists, you start as a junior reporter, then senior reporter, and you transition; not just reporting, not just hosting the program, but to give the knowledge and skills that you acquired over the years to other younger people who are new in the profession.”
Roseline Gonya, a Juba-based radio broadcaster, said she expects to learn new journalistic skills.
“I am a radio presenter at Classic FM, and I have attended this workshop with a lot of expectations, and I expect to get new ideas and knowledge because every day we keep learning new skills from new people,” she said.
Another participant, Lola Diana Magar, a reporter at Radio Nova, said she was excited to attend the female journalists’ training for the first time.
“Today, I am attending the training for female journalists, and I have high expectations because it is my first time having such a training for female journalists to become trainers,” she said.
