C. Equatoria MPs demand medical support system

Members of the Central Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly have urged the government to establish for them a dedicated medical support system at the state level.

The appeal was made on Thursday during the reopening of the third parliamentary session at the Bari Community Center.

Clerk of the Assembly, Simon Peter Jonathan, read a speech on behalf of the Deputy Speaker, emphasizing that “good health is not a privilege but a necessity for effective leadership.”

“Our lawmakers carry the weight of decision-making that affects the entire state, and it is only fair that their health needs are adequately met,” he read.

Peter further stressed the urgency of the initiative.

“The recent loss of two of our colleagues after short illnesses is a stark reminder that timely medical care can save lives,” he said. “We cannot afford to wait until tragedy strikes to act.”

In recognition of the deceased members, the Assembly observed a moment of silence before continuing with its legislative business.
