The SSPDF in Unity State’s Rubkona County on Wednesday recovered at least 4,000 head of cattle that were raided on Tuesday night from Akumagon Payam in Ruweng Administrative Area’s Parieng County by armed youth.
The Minister of Information in Ruweng Administrative, Simon Chol, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that one person was killed and three others were injured on Tuesday during the incident in Parieng County.
“All the 4,000 head of cattle were recovered from the armed youth from Unity State on Wednesday. The first group of 3,573 cattle was recovered in the morning, and in the evening, 427 head of cattle were recovered by the same forces from the SSPDF’s third and fifth infantry divisions and youth from Ruweng,” he said. “From the side of the cattle owners, one person was killed and three others wounded during the raid in Ruweng, and the injured are now receiving treatment at the hospital in Parieng Town.”
“There are several incidents of insecurity occurring in Ruweng caused by armed youth from Unity State, and we urge the national government to take decisive action to address this dangerous escalation because Ruweng Administrative Area should not be subjected to daily violence,” Minister Chol added.
Meanwhile, Engineer Gatwich Bipal Both, the information minister of Unity State, confirmed the raid but insisted that only 427 head of cattle were raided and not 4,000.
“Yes, the incident occurred in the evening hours on Tuesday when armed youth from our side went to Ruweng Administrative Area and raided cattle, but we have managed to recover 427 of the cattle,” he said. “The number of cattle which was raided is 427 cattle, not the 4,000 that were mentioned by the information minister of Ruweng Administrative Area.”
The minister said the SSPDF deployed in the northern part of Unity State clashed with the rustlers and recovered 427 head of cattle.
