In a copy of a statement obtained by Radio Tamazuj, the youth stated that any solution or compromise regarding Abyei without the opinion of the people of the region on the issue would be rejected. The statement also warned of targeting the region and exploiting its resources without bringing development, and stressed that the youth of the region are ready to use all available options and possibilities to preserve their rights. The youth strongly rejected the emergency law imposed by the authorities in border states and asserted that, after the separation of the South, the national government has exploited the state’s petroleum, forestry and livestock resources of the region without providing services in return. They complained that the rate of unemployment among graduates has reached to nearly 70%, and called on African Union mediators and the international community to recognize the importance of their participation in the negotiation. The youth also stated that if Abyei becomes part of the South, they will demand a referendum for all the regions in the sector to join it and establish new social and political ties with the Republic of South Sudan."}
