Unity State Governor Dr. Joseph Monytuil on Wednesday officially launched the construction of the vital 78-kilometre Guit-Tharjiath Road, which connects to Southern Unity and the state capital, Bentiu.
This critical road will serve as a lifeline for the movement of goods and services, significantly improving supply and enhancing economic activities throughout Unity State and establishing a key connection to Juba.
Dor Dapier, the Director General in the State Ministry of Information and Telecommunications in Unity State, confirmed the construction of the road has commenced from Guit Town and is fully funded by the state.
“The project is expected to be completed within one month and is fully funded by the Unity State Government through the finance ministry and is being implemented by the Government of Unity State,” he said.
Dapier said the construction of the road connecting Bentiu Town and Tharjitah oil field will help the communities across the state transport commodities from Juba.
Meanwhile, Guit County Commissioner Kawar Chany told Radio Tamazuj that the project is a major investment and that it will improve connectivity, facilitate trade, enhance access to essential services, and support sustainable socio-economic development. He thanked the governor for supporting and promoting development initiatives in Guit County.
“This road rehabilitation is expected to save lives and especially reduce maternity-related deaths, because expectant mothers and other patients have found it difficult to reach health facilities due to the bad roads in the last two years,” he said.
For his part, Both Yien, a resident of Guit County, lauded the governor for initiating the project, saying it will lead to development across Unity State.
