UNICEF supports renovation of 15 water stations in North Darfur

The director of the water sector in North Darfur State, Engineer Abdel Shafi Abdallah Adam, on Tuesday, revealed that the Sahari Development Zone has begun restoring 15 water stations in three of the state’s localities with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Adam confirmed to Radio Tamazuj following a coordination meeting that included officials from the water sector with the Sahari Development Organization that the organization announced the maintenance of about 15 water stations in Umm Kadada, Al-Lait, and Al-Fasher town.

He added that they will also be connecting three schools in these localities to water supply lines in addition to training youth from the local communities to maintain the water stations that the Sahari Development Organization and UNICEF are going to rehabilitate.

“We will ease all the process, including technical support to the operationalization of this process,” Adam explained. “The operation will provide clean and safe drinking water to all.”

Adam praised the Sahari Development Organization and UNICEF for implementing and supporting water projects in North Darfur and called on other organizations operating in the water and sanitation field to intervene and support the restoration of water supply to the towns and villages.
