SPLM says Sudan schools marginalise minorities

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement secretary of education in the Nuba Mountains has described the status of the current curriculum in Sudan as ‘weak and marginalising’. Simon Kalou said the curriculum is based on a policy of Arabisation and Islamisation, not reflecting the rich cultural, religious and ethnic diversity reflected in the Sudanese population. He said it is aimed to marginalise minorities or anyone falling outside of the presumed group. Kalou said the East African approach such as used in Kenya is a more legitimate alternative that includes and celebrates the diverse make up of its people.
